The Jay Sartini Memorial Scholarship
Local scholarship opportunity for high school seniors and second year Kent State University students
The Jay Sartini Memorial Scholarship is funded and administered by the Ashtabula County Business Exchange. Ashtabula County Business Exchange, chartered in July, 2004, is a group of local business owners who have joined together to exchange and promote business through information sharing. The secondary purpose of the organization is to support business education in Ashtabula County in order to encourage and sustain entrepreneurship.

Multiple $1000.00 scholarships are awarded to graduating high school students entering college, university or trade school of their choice. In addition, we award a $1000.00 General Studies Scholarship to a second year Kent State University student.
Scholarship Requirements
To be considered for the awards, eligible students are
required to submit the following:

1. A one-page letter of request, explaining why the student believes they deserve the award.
2. Proof of academic eligibility (3.0 or better G.P.A.).
3. Two letters of recommendation from academic advisors (teachers, professors, guidance counselors).
4. Student Aid Report.
5. Record of Community Service.
6. Completed Application Form.
The deadline for submitting requests is April 15.

About Jay Sartini
James Joseph “Jay” Sartini, J. D. was born on October 30, 1965 in Garfield Heights. Mr. Sartini was the son of Thomas and Marlene Sartini.
Mr. Sartini graduated from St. John High School in 1984, an avid golfer, he earned a scholarship to Gannon University in Erie, Pa., where he earned his bachelors degree in political science. He then earned his Juris Doctorate from Capital University in Columbus, OH.
Shortly after passing the bar exam, Mr. Sartini returned to Ashtabula to partner with his father at the Sartini Law Firm. In 1997 Mr. Sartini took over the Firm from his father.
Mr. Sartini was a founding member of Ashtabula County Business Exchange as well as a member of the Ashtabula County, Ohio State and American Bar Associations and Justinian Forum. Mr. Sartini also served on the Board of Directors at Goodwill Industries, Ashtabula, OH.
Mr. Sartini’s passion for golf continued after high school as he was a member of several golf courses in our area including the Ashtabula Country Club and Thunder Hill Golf Course in Madison. In his lifetime he was able to record two hole-in-ones, a feat that is rarely accomplished in ones lifetime.
Mr. Sartini had a wonderful wife Laura Jane as well as a daughter Ava Louise. Mr. Sartini passed away on June 16, 2009 at a very young age of 43.
Because of Mr. Sartini’s passion for Ashtabula County and the desire to help our youth attend college, we honor his legacy with this scholarship.
